On the 15th of July at the Trilogy tennis courts we had the battle of the
ages, or should I say aged! After many, many months of planning, two
teams met for the first time on the pristine courts of Trilogy Rio Vista.
Shortly after 7AM members of team Codgers and team Geezers/Geezerettes started
showing up for the 7:45AM start of the tournament. Before the start of the
first sets, many of the players enjoyed light refreshments to get their
metabolism going, hoping this would peak their energy during their match or
slow them down and give them an excuse. The blue lines were drawn; oh
wait, that's for pickle ball -- forget I said that. The Commish went over
the rules for the tournament and the score sheets (everyone understood them the
first time).
The first round of play was started at exactly 7:45AM +/-, anyway
we started the tournament. The first round of four doubles matches saw
the Geezers/Geezerettes pull ahead 37 to 23. The Codgers looked a little
worried but knew they had a group of strong players for the second round.
Again, the second round started right on time +/- and we were off and
running. The Codgers and Geezers/Geezerettes battled back and forth for
hours (or maybe an hour) until the bitter end. It was a valiant effort by
the Codgers, but the Geezers/Geezerettes came out on top with a final score of
Geezers/Geezerettes 65, Codgers 40.
Photos were taken and backs slapped before we all regrouped
at the bocce courts for lunch and the awards ceremony. Trophies and candy
bars were handed out to the team players of team Geezers/Geezerettes. The
winners were informed that the victory parade would be on July 4, 2018.
The parade route will be from the Vista club to the Delta club and it may look
a lot like the Trilogy 4th of July celebration parade but that is just a
coincidence!
I want to thank everyone for their participation in the
Intra-Community Tennis Tournament and I hope you all had a great time. Maybe we
will have another one in the cooler weather.
